i recently bought a new computer with this ram:

OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Platinum Rev.2 Dual Channel 2gb (2x1024)

knowing that im a gamer, i think i should've bought the gold edition ram.
Anyway, since i have these now i prepare to take full advandage of them, i really dont know which is better, gold or platinum, but anyway here is my question...

My default timings on the ram are 2.5-3-3-5 at 400MHz. The question is, are these good or do i need to increase the MHz or tighten the timings?
Cause what i read was that if you buy the platinum edition then you are meaning to overclock it, otherwise you wont be benefitting or taking full advantage of the ram, is that true?
thanks in advance!

try the timings first and then up the clock speed. try for a cl of 2 first. Shouldnt have any problems with that. then up the speed by 1 or 2mhz at a time, or what ever the lowest increment you can do is.

Paying money for the highend ram is a waste unless you overclock and tighten the timings.
pc3200 is good enough then running at cl 3.

by "cl3" do you mean timings of 2.3-3-3-3 ??

you may first set the CL value to 2, which is important, and then try to upgrade the clock frenquency--200MHz one by one.

Hello mo26 I have the same ram and board as you. But I have a A64 3200+ CPU. I currently have it running a 2.6ghz (10x260). The memory is running a 217mhz @ 2-3-2-5 using the 5:6 divider. These sticks overclock well. If have any questions on bios setting go to this website.

ok i just checked out the bois and here is what i got:

Memclock index value (Mhz) 400Mhz
CAS# latency (Tcl) 2.5
Min RAS# active time (Tras) 5T
RAS# to CAS# delay 3T
Row precharge Time (Trp) 3T
Row cycle time (Trc) 11T
Row Refresh cyc time (Trfc) 14T
Read-to-write time (Trwt) 4T
Write recovery time (Twr) 3T
1T/2T memory timing 2T

so if i want to change the timings to 2-3-2-5, which of these do i need to change and to what values? thanks

These are the completely stock settings. I them from the oca forums.

Dram Configuration:

Timing Mode: Manual
Memclock index value: 400 mhz
Cas latency (TCL) : 2.5
Min ras active time (TRAS) : 5
Ras to Cas delay (TRCD) : 3
Row precharge time (TRP) : 2
Row Cycle time (TRC) : 12
Row refresh cycle time (TRFC) :16
Read-to-write time (TRWT) : 2
Write recovery time (TWR) : 2
1T/2T memory timing : 1
S/W Dram over 4gb remapping : Disabled
H/W Dram over 4gb remapping : Disabled

Hyper transport frequency : auto
Amd K8 Cool'nQuiet : Disabled

Jumperfree Configuration:

Overclock profile: Manual
CPU frequency : your stock freq.
PCI Express : 100mhz
DDR voltage : 2.7
Chipset voltage : 1.5
HT voltage : 1.20
CPU multiplier : 8 (or whatever the max is on your cpu)
CPU voltage : 1.550
PCI clock syncronization mode : 33.33mhz

but wouldnt stock have a Cas latency (TCL) of 2? thats what it says on my ram sticks anyway.
