My 2.5" 60gig, 5400rpm laptop drive failed on me. The drive was inside a portable case which I used to transport files back and forth from school. (mostly) ;)

I need to know what company I should go with for the replaceent drive. Are all laptop disk drives the same or are some better then others?

If some are better, please list the company that makes the top ones.

Thanks!

All laptop drives are not the same, simply because they are coming out of different factories with different parts, QC, etc. But it's probably hard to put a finger on which are really the best. I'll just say that although we had bad luck several years ago with Fujitsu IDE drives in desktops, we've had good luck with their laptop drives. We've also done well with Seagate, but not so good with Hitachi.

I just replaced mine with a Samsung Spinpoint and I am really happy with it. Very quiet, stable and plenty fast enough. Newegg has them for cheap.
