If you had $200 to spend, what brand of inkjet printer would you invest in? Oh... this will be for color and best text. Will be printing photos...good text would be nice but I can always print text to laser elsewhere. So photo quality is important here.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Have'nt voted yet but will. Just want to get something of my cheast. These damn inkjet printer corporations are screwing us so well with their cartridge pricing, it damn well is obseen. Are those refilling packages really up to pare? And there are now little companies popping up that do cartridge refilling. I'm I the only one who is pissed off about this?

You're definitely not the only one pissed about the ink prices. I posted something on this earlier in another forum section venting the same frustrations. I think the only reason some of these big name companies are trying to create such a great inkjet is just so they can rape us on the cost of the ink! That is why I'm leaning towards the Canon s630. It's carts are fairly reasonable and it's supposed to have integrated technology to disperse ink w/o waste. However, I've never known Canon to make that great of a printer. Its reviews have been outstanding and it's probably the printer I'll buy, but I just wanted to get everyone's opinion. I've heard you can go about refilling your own ink carts... but it doesn't sound like something I'd been too interested in pursuing.

It sucks. Refilling your own ink that is. It's messy and hardly looks as good as a new cartridge. You're right. When buying a printer the main thing to look for is the price of the ink cartridges. That's where they all make their money.

I voted for Canon! My Canon S600 prints beautifully. The latest S630 is a slightly faster version of the S600, at 17ppm instead of 15ppm maximum text speed.

If it ain't broke, Don't fix it.
Ink cartridges are expensive.
But toner cartridges for laser printers are a lot more expensive.
At least with $2500 laser printer you can print 5000 sheets with one $150 toner cartridge.
With my cheapo ink jet I have to replace the $10 ink cartridge after 100 printed pages. Now that sucks.
Only 10 bucks, chriss where or what printer is that. Are we talking color. Most likely not with 100 pages, no way
My older hp 600 has cost me oh afraid to even guess but in a 3 year periode: 8 to 10 color & 6 or 7 black, color 40/50 bucks all CAD, black 35/40. so total: $ 685 sh*t the printer had cost about $150 or less, damn, maybe your right and a laser is'nt such a follish idea. Hey, ar'nt color lasers less than $2500?

Canon 2100
The last time I was in Future Shop they were selling the whole printer (printer cable not included) with black and colour cartridges for $30. I think the real price was $60 with a $30 mail in rebate. Which means nothing because in the last 3 years I have never seen a Canon printer for sale that didn't come with a customer mail in rebate.
Replacement Black Cartridge $10.
Replacement Colour Cartridge $30.
Replacement Print Head with Black & Colour Cartridges $60.
Pretty soon it will be like Microsoft. Here is the hardware for free but we'll charge you $0.10 per printed page.
