You're not a fan of online game, I gather. Depending on where you got your (legitimate) copy from HalfLife does not require an internet connection. If you are referring to HalfLife 2, then yes, you need internet access.

I don't mean to be rude or an ass but this issue has been widely covered on this forum and other forums before. If you'd just done a search here, or a google search for that matter, you would have found the answer instantly.

It needs an internet connection at least once (to register, decrypt install files, download patches). Then you dont need one, it will run in "offline mode".

See folken's post. Steam will run in offline mode and you can play HL2 then (assuming you have registered once).

If there is an internet connection available it will go online. Remove it, and it will start offline.

You can only have logged onto steam once per machine. Log into steam on the machine you want to be offline, unplug it from the internet, and you should be fine on it. You will just have to log in once more on a machine that is hooked up to the internet.
