$500

Hi everyone, im looking to build a new computer and i have only $500 at my disposal. So its imperative i get the best performance/price for every part of hardware and obviously in grand total not exceed my budget.

Any suggestions for cpu, mobo, case, vid card, ram would be greatly appreciated

thanks

What will this rig be used for? (If no 3d gaming shootemups are planned, we can quicky save you $140-$190 right there, by going with a mb with integrated video)

Does this $500 budget include having to purchase a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers, and...operating system?

Whats your current rig? maybe just changing the GPU will do. Cos, man 500 for a gaming rig is O_O

You'll be severly dissapointed and would be better off buying a xbox 360 or games for PS2 or whatever you have for 500. I think 800 at least.

with geforce 6800 going for 150 bucks or so, you can do it, That is most important and a 3200+ athlon 64 120 bucks. reuse your hardrive if you can that will save you some change

1 gig you value ram 70 bucks corsair, optical 40 bucks or less if dont need a burner
asrock 939 dual 70 or less other good choices out there

any 350 watt psu should work
this is pushing your budget I know

Could always wait for some the new tech to come out this year and it should drop the prices of some the current gen stuff. And If ya wait longer, thats more time to save up more money :D Atm you won't get the sickest rig for that budget, you'll end up getting just a sickly rig and need to put that thing outta its misery :?
You'll end up with a comp like prozac's :P
