I know flask can rip directly from a dvd. Problem is when I open a dvd I see 4-5 files that make up the movie(VTS_01_0.VOB, VTS_01_1.VOB etc. etc.) I have tried merging the file on my hdd but the file become a .dat extention which flask won't use.
My question being, Do I rip each file seprately then merge them or do I have to do it via the already merged .dat file?
Dude U R makin this way too tuff. First of all you do not use the regular version of Flask to rip. You use a ripper to rip. After you have a copy on your hd and that copy has been decoded then you use Flask. There are lots of rippers that do a fine job like, Smart Ripper, VOBDEC, Clad, V Strip, etc. The ripper decodes and copies.
When it is time to use Flask there are 2 ways to go. The easiest is called dvd mode where Flask reads a small "information" file called something.ifo and the ifo tells Flask about the vobs. You don't need to join anything. Flask will string the vobs together automatically in dvd mode or file mode, you never need to join vobs. Go to http://www.doom9.org for information and downloads. Check otu the guides for information and pickup a rippack for everything you need to divx a dvd.

Thanks for the info. Ripped one last night w/o a problem. Sound was a bit low but, I'll just turn up the normalization next time.
