What do you people recommend?

Getting the ATI Radeon X1800 XT Now, or waiting for the GeForce 7900 GTX?

Does anyone know with the GeForce 7900 GTX will actually be available?

Thanks For the info

I recomend getting the X1900XT for $499 which easily overclocks to past X1900XTX speeds using ATI's own built in overdrive driver utility and suspect it will closely match if not be able to beat the top line 7900, and not just in price...

By all accounts the 7900 will be a hard launch, so it SHOULD be available this thursday or friday. I'm sure we'll see lots of benchmarks by then so you can make your decision accordingly.

Either way, the X1900XT is still gonna cost less and perform like a champ, and best of all grow faster as time tolls on.

i like ati. however nvidia cards are more effiecient right now. even the 7800 gtx 512 uses less power than the x1800xt. on top of that the 7900's will be using 90nm technology making them even more efficient.

power consumption

wether its ati or nvidia, i plan to wait one more week untill the 7900's get here (1st week of march i hear). both will be dropping prices.

price drop

I wouldn't exactly get any card atm, wait for nvidia's stuff to come out. There should be some price drops for ati cards.. thats what i'm doing too.. Yeah, the power on a x1800xt is quite high but the performance should be worth it. I really like how the highend card 7800gt and the x1800xl doesn't use as much as the brothers of each card.

The 512MB X1800XT is consuming 20watts more than the 256MB 7800GTX, but that 20 watts is also giving more FPS and memory so it is not bad considering.
But the X1800XT still uses 15watts more than the 512MB 7800GTX.

With ATI your also getting dual-link DVI that the 7800 does not have.

Bottom line, you get high end CPU's and GPU's, you need to get high end PSU's.

Even If You Plan To Buy X1900 Series , Wait For 7900 To Comes Out , Then The Price of ATI Cards Will Drop Down

always good to wait - the 7900 should be quicker and the x1900 will be cheaper again after.

I know there is _always_ something on the horizon so sometimes waiting is not always a solution... but with Vista coming out this fall and G80 and R600 around the corner (it is March now, so we are 6 months away from newer hardware) I would personally have a hard time dropping $500 on something that wont have DX10 (WGF2.0) features.

But if you have the money spend it :D

That also depends on how much are you willing to spend as the 7900GTX will not be cheap but rumored speed of close to 700mhz is very tempting and would smoke anything that are out today including the arch rival ATI's X1900XTX. The X1800 on the other hand is better when it comes to the price tag and plays the latest games without breaking a sweat.

So if you're a baller with cash flowin' then I'd say wait for the 7900. They should be out late spring or by summer as far as I know. :D

I think you meant to say X1900...right? 7900GTX vs 1800XT...that would be a worthless question.

Do you realize that when you tell someone something, you should try to not sound like you know what you are talking about and just put something down that is credible. 7900 comes out before spring even starts...as far as i know...lolz.
