hi guys! this is my first time buying a computer speaker, so i need your guys' help. Tigerdirect had this Logitech Z2300 on sale for $55. i will be using the onboard sound with my a8n-e asus mobo. will the sound work great? is this pair of spears really worth the premium price?
BTW, anybody has past rebate experience with Tigerdirect? how is it?
The speakers are nice, but running them on a crap card like almost all motherboards are is stupid.
By a new soundcard: Creative Soundblaster X-Fi (doesn´t really matter wich one)
Then the sound will be very nice!
If you are going to spend $75 on a sound card, I don't see why you would get a $55 pair of speakers...unless you are a masochist--no offense intended; it just seems to me the medium that determins 95-99% of the output distortion should be looked at less than an ancillary product.
Just to clarify if anyone is confused--speakers produce thousands of times more distortion than electronics. It would only make sense that a dollar for dollar input would be significantly more utilitarian and cost-effective if you tackle speakers first, then electronics. But the nice silver box and gold connectors of those more expensive sound cards...can be alluring.
(1) Speaker size is an important determinant of bass response.
(2)Speaker weight determines (lack of) coloration from cabinet vibrations.
(3) Most multimedia subwoofers are just upper-bass modules and don't actually have much in the way of actual bass. They peak in the upperbass (80-100hz), which is why "they annoy the neighbors." Linear, deep bass response never bothered anyone.
(4)Look for systems with tweeters, as they have more high frequency response, and less beaming (larger soundstage).
(5)Look for systems where you can compare the output measurements.
There are a lot of good choices dependant on price level. What is your price range?
thx astrallite ! i am planning to buy a speaker that best utilize w/ the onboard sound card, i can go as high as $50. any suggestions?? is logitech speakers any good?
