K8Neo 4 PLatinum Q

HI to all,

This is my first post, hopefully of many. Well lemme get to problem.

Well I got myself a K8Neo PLatinum, and all is well in the land of happy gamer .

But there is a small problem, with my Mainboard im using a 4400+XP x2 64bit
it works with no problem and the BIOS picks up the clock frequency. The problem is that when my puter is in post it doesnt pick my type of chip.

It says the following , AMD hammer Family - Unknown CPU type.

This is nothing more than an EYE SORE than anything else.

If anyone knows how to get this working so that it picks up the CPU type in post.

It sounds like you need a bios update. Also, if your bios can't detect dual cores, I don't think windows will either. You may need to reinstall windows after the bios update.

I was contemplating a BIOS update, but it doesnt seem that MSI has one newer than mine yet.

Well ill just have to keep searching, untill they release one.


btw Windows does pickup my chip but not the MOBO. Like i said this is only an EYE SORE. everything is working fine. I just like things to be 100%

Yes, mine show correctly during post. I got this board in December. I think it came with bios 1.9 and I updated to 1.B. v1.B had an update for CPU ID.

Funny enough i checked this page today

But i missed the part where you need to select a Chipset and MOBO :roll:


well that seems like it could fix my prob. But do i need to reinstall windows now. Coz i just installed it last night.

If windows device manager shows your computer as a "multiprocessor PC" then you should be ok, otherwise you may need to do a "repair install" or a clean install.
