6600gt or go 6600? Mysterious problem.
Or are they the same, and I'm paranoid?
So, today I ran to my local gpu-pusher and invested in a inno3d geforce 6600gt.. Or so I thought, and maybe it is, it says so on the box :/
I'm somewhat suspicious of the inno3d company as I've never heard about them, but the card was cheap and passed cursory inspection, so I bought it.
Anyway, this might be me being stupid and not knowing that they're all called "go 6600" or something, but I got a bit suspicious when I looked at the nvidia display and saw the name "GeForce go 6600" where I was sure it should say GeForce 6600 gt.
This is a cut and paste from nvidia display.
Processor: GeForce Go 6600
Video BIOS version: 5.43.02.80
IRQ: 19
Bus: PCI express x16
More strangeness ensued as this card is most definately an AGP card.
This made me run directx diagnostics, here is what dxdiag says.
Name: NVIDIA Geforce 6600 GT
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip Type: GeForce Go 6600
Well, the name is the right one.. But the chipset seems off.. Unless all 6600gts run on a "go 6600" chip type? And I'm just ignorant?
Anyway, then I ran sisofts sandra and sure enough, sandra says.
Model: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
Chipset: GeForce Go 6600
And msinfo which says.
Name: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
Adapter type: GeForce Go 6600, NVIDIA compatible
Adapter description: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
Again with the "go 6600" strangeness. I further downloaded coolbit to check the clock frequencies and they're at 500/1000 mghz.. Which is again weird, as this is an AGP card, from a lowend producer, I was fairly sure that only the top of the line manufactures made 500/1000 for the 6600gts(and the rest 400/900 or something), when it's set to "overclocking off". I'm not sure how exactly coolbit works, if it actually measures the mghz or if it just reads them off the card?
Anyway, looking for any help you can give.. Especially I hope, that I'm overly paranoid and it's perfectly normal. Perhaps there is some program out there which could test it for sure? 3dMark perhaps?
Just so you know, my drivers are the latest 81.98 forceware driverne for my 6600gt(maybe?) and my motherboard drivers are the nforce 5.11 (mobo is Asus K8N nForce3 250)
Any help appreciated.
