Im upgrading a HP Pavilion 710.uk Desktop.

The motherboard is a ASUS TUSL-L specially made for HP
According to the Specification:-

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=uk&docname=bph07230&product=72957&dlc=en&lang=en

It should be able to take 2x 256MB PC133 SDRAM memory sticks. As such I bought 2x 256MB PC133 SDRAM memory sticks. I installed said sticks and I only get 256MB PC133 SDRAM in BIOS. I remove one stick I get 128MB in BIOS. Obviously this means the memory slots are working fine aside from only getting half the memory.

Can anyone help me? I have email HP and scan.co.uk but not got any response yet.

Thanks

Kelechi

Check the manual, it will tell you why type of sticks it supports. Each slot may only support 128m, or it may only support double sided memory and you have single sided memory, or vice versa.

You can also go to crucial.com and plug in your system and it will tell you what it will support and the type of memory you need.

Thanks for the link

I dont have the manuel as I am upgrading it for a friend who has inherited it. I went through crucial.com and they told me that it needs PC133 ram specifically part number CT253167. I also did i search on their site for PC133 and found part number CT32M64S4D7E. I played spot the difference and only came up with a 1 dollar price difference. The Specifications are below:-

I feel as though someone built the HP Pavillion 710.uk to vex me. I also have a horrible feeling that I may have to update the BIOS or that it might be an issue with the module construction.

You need single sided memory sticks. Check the sticks that you have right now. Are there chips on both sides?
Each side is 128 meg. HP likes to use single sided memory. See if you can find a 256 mb single sided memory stick.

HP has had some terrible memory compatibility issues. I usually keep a dozen sticks handy just so I can try each and every one when upgrading an HP.

If I had to buy new RAM, I'd just get it from Crucial and avoid the hassel.

I've had EXACTLY the same problem. Tried the memory in a MS-6060 moherboard and low and behold my 2x128mb strips were recognising properly, whereas on the board in the HP it was showing up as 2x64mb

Either check for a bios flash (if there is one) or get the single sided RAM.
