my computer died and i RMA'd everything. i got a new CPU, new HDD, new RAM, supposedly a new or refurbed MOBO and a new power supply. the damn thing wont boot. well it will boot but shut itself down like 20 seconds later. i dont know what to do anymore. i got all new stuff and it wont work. everything is the same as before when it worked fine. its an ABIT AA8 mobo, 3.2 P4, PQI DDR2 RAM, maxtor SATA drive. i dont know what else to put on here. i tried booting it with just the basics. nothing in the pci card slots and no floppy or cd rom drives in there. the video card is a ati aiw x600 or something, i use it in my other computer all the time so i know it works just fine.

Is there a way to test it with another power supply?

yes, i put a brand new power supply in. i also took the one out of my other computer. they both work just fine. so its not the PSU.

How about did you remove the tape on the bottom of the heatsink? Off the top of my head it sounds like an overheating issue.

no tape, used thermal compund. put about 3/4 size of a BB on it.

Right, and that's good. Was only wondering if there was any tape on the bottom of the heatsink to begin with or if it was just bare metal.

EDIT: Perhaps have tried reseating the CPU and RAM and all the power connectors?
