Epson EPL 5800 toner cartridge problem

I have an Epson EPL 5800 printer for which I have just bought a
replacement toner cartridge - not Epson. I think it is a re-manufactured
one. The supplier sent one for the EPL 5700 saying that they are the
same, but when I put it in it still comes up showing empty. They have
taken this back and re-supplied with the same result. The cartridge has
been shaken etc. I complained about this and they have sent a third one.

Does anyone know for certain that the 5700 & 5800 are the same. I have
noticed on the replacement one that there are 4 tabs broken off. This is
looking at the side with the Epson label. On the left there are 3
plastic fingers or tabs and 1 on the right. With these removed are they
causing the printer to think it is out of toner?

Any help would be appreciated

They are the same. After replacing, turn the printer on while pressing
online/form feed buttons. This will reset the toner counter.

BTW, did you read the manual ;) ?

Thanks for that. I had assumed that there was something in the cartridge
to tell it it was full. I suppose it just depends on a page counter then?

RFM - erm, no. Did look for it but could not find it, come to think of
it now not sure it did come with one. Just occurred to me that it was on
disk.

I'm not sure - this would cause huge inaccuracy. Probably during
image building process black dots are counted - just as in inkjets.

You can find a user manual here:
