Last night almost a full moon here (PHX AZ). The moon does not give off
enough luminesence to light up the ground below. Is there a way to turn up
just the brightness of the moon???

I think in order to get the proper look of a desert full moon (which, when
your eyes are adjusted to the dark, really can turn night into day...) you'd
have to play with the white, black and gamma levels of the actual artwork
and terrain textures.

I know what you mean though. Seems every 3d accelerated shooter out there
can give us gleams, glows and ambient lighting effects. IMO, FS is a little
behind the curve in this department. That being said, I don't think there
is another genre of computer gaming/simming that makes as many demands in so
many areas as does a flight sim.

Do you want eye candy or do you want to believe you are truly flying a model
which exhibits correct thrust, weight, lift and drag in three dimensions
through a "fluid." Glad I'm not the one who has to find the balance between
the two extremes.

Regards from a fellow AZer.

Hey. We AZers ought to get together and collaborate in getting more local
airport sceneries. By the way I was in the pool last night looking at the
full moon. I've never seen it shine like it does here.

Thanks to all

I would rather have more accurate flight models but......while wishing I
have lots of other questions (thoughts)

Does FS Sky World have replacement moon textures? It does in the FS8
versions. Did a search for Chris Willis...

but didn't see any moon info in the VIEW modes of [the] FS9 paks.

Some might like to know this small observation. In Saudi we were more
than 300 miles into the desert and about 20 miles from the Iraq border
while we waited for Desert Classic I to start. You can stand, turn a
complete circle, and see nothing but flat nothingness to the distant
horizon. Luckily Iraq had as few rocks and small bushes you could see
with a moon.

The OH58D is a night operating helicopter. Nvg's and FLIR. But Saudi is
a place of extremes. When there was no moon it was so dark you can't
imagine. When we could use a flashlight it would show a small spot of
light on the ground. Nothing else. To go to the latrine at night with
no moon you had to use a compass to get to it, and get back to the tent.

But when the moon came up anything above a half moon it was daytime. The
light colored sand reflected the moonlight and you could see forever. It
was like play time in the desert.

Hi Downloader,

That's interesting - so I guess WWII night flying in Northern Africa
would have been a whole different ball game than the European Theatre?

If the sand was the color and texture and the bombers flew at 100 ft
AGL, then yep. I don't have any idea up there in the upper atmosphere. :)

I think bombers purposely flew in no moon conditions so they could not be
seen

I don't usually reply to myself, but I thought this was the easiest way to
thank you both.
