Synch To New Pocket PC?

Last response: in Cell Phones & Smartphones

My iPaq 3670 is 3 1/2 years old with ROM Revision 1.76.00 ENG
(OS version 3.0--the one before Pocket PC 2002). Since the battery
can only hold a 50% charge, I'll be replacing the unit one day soon.
Any problem with ActiveSynching with a new Pocket PC and copying
all files onto the new unit? Do programs need to be reinstalled? (I
know eWallet has has a newer version). I do have the Pocket PC 2002
Upgrade CD from HP, but I never installed it. Would that make the
transition to a new Pocket PC easier?

Thanks!

If you are asking if you can restore the backup from your 3670 to a newer
different Pocket PC, the answer is no.

You can, however,

1. Sync your 3670 to a PC and then sync the new PPC to the same PC to let
the PIM data flow over into the new device.
2. Re-install most apps. There are a few applications that may not
install/run on the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition device.

Todd,

Yes, syching the data is the most important thing. Will I need to do something with
the partnership to get my PC to synch to the new PPC?

Thanks!

No, the PC will sync with multiple PPCs. The caveats are they can't have the
same name (Device ID), and Inbox and MS Money will only sync with one PPC.
If you are syncing them now, just turn that off and turn it on when you
create the partnership on the new PPC. That will be prompted the first time
you connect the new one via USB.

Sven,

What I'll want to do is synch all my existing data to the new PPC and keep the
old PPC as a backup PDA. As long as they have different Device ID's, can
I synch my old PPC to the PC from time to time to keep it's data up to date?
