im looking for a scanner which will scan quickly at 300 dpi, as quickly as possible as i will need to scan several thousand photos and would prefer not to wait the few minutes it takes currenttly with my usb mutek 1200ub... its a good enough scanner when judged by the quality of the image but when it comes to speed it is pathetic... any suggestions?

if in doubt blame microsoft...

My suggestion for a speedy device would be a FireWire Scanner, such as the Microtek ScanMaker 5700. A similiar scanner from another company could easily cost three times as much. These scanners are fast, and the quality level is very high.

I have used a SCSI Microtek Scanmaker 4 for several years, and in comparison with products from various companies like Epson, Canon, Hewlett-Packard, Umax, and Visioneer ... I believe a Microtek scanner has superior features and ease of use. I've tried all of the brands mentioned, and Microtek is the best of the bunch, IMHO.
