Only a week or so after having battled to get Adobe Reader 1.0 onto my Ipaq
rx3715 (with mixed results I might add), I now see that Adobe have released
Adobe Reader 2.0 ( http://www.adobe.com/products/acro [...] orppc.html )
which they claim is suitable for PPC's running Windows Mobile 2003 - Second
Edition.

However, on another website (
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=3463 ) the following comment
was made, " This new version of Adobe Reader does NOT support Windows Mobile
2003 Second Edition nor devices with a VGA screen, including the Toshiba
e800 and the HP hx4700. Shame on Adobe for providing the first update in
years that doesn't even support current hardware. We do NOT recommend anyone
using WM2003SE install this update."

Has anybody tried Adobe Reader 2 yet? Does it work and is it worth the
13.5Mb download?

The way I read the adobe site is that it will ONLY run on WM2k3SE (in
addition to PPC2k2). Now whether this is because they only tested it on
SE but it will run on WM2k3 I dont know.

I guess the only way to know is to just download it and see :-) Im doing
that right now. Thanks for pointing out its existence

It works fine on my hx4705, however it does not "support" vga. It's
text is displayed in qvga (with pixel doubling). It does work well with
se_vga however, and looks gorgeous that way. Hopefully they'll
release a "2.1" version with real vga support.

I'm using it and it works well. Good gosh though... 8MB footprint?! As I
remember it, 1.0 was 1/2 that size.

I'm looking for the remote microwave activation icon. Surely for an
application this big it has one.... ;-)

It works fine on my iPAQ 4355 ... but I removed it and reinstalled v1.0
because 2.0 takes too much space on the PPC and I couldn't get it to install
on my SD card.

That was no problem here too. I just started the install as usual and when
the install utility asked if I wanted it installed in its default directory
I answered "no" and redirected it to the SD-card. It still sits there,
ready to jump into action whenever I want it to.

Ditto. I suggest soft resetting the pda, rebooting the pc, and trying
the install again.

Mm, seeing all the positive comments here I thought I'd try installing
Reader 2.0 on my iPAQ 2210 .

Installation refused to complete as I already had Reader 1.0 installed -
fair comment I thought, so uninstalled reader 1.0 from the pda. Installation
then terminated.

Ran the install again and software refused to install - suggesting that the
uninstall was not complete, although nothing remains on the pda!

Anyone care to offer some advice here?

I had a similar problem. I uninstalled Reader 1.0 from my PDA first, then
from my PC and got the error message, when I tried to install Reader 2.0,
that Reader 1.0 was still installed. I tried different things then finally
re-installed Reader 1.0, and then un-installed it - but this time I used my
PC's Add/Remove programs. That left 4 folders on the PDA that were empty
and had to be manually deleted using File Explorer. I then soft re-set and
installed Reader 2.0 without a hitch. By the way, I installed it to my SD
card and it works fine from there.

oops, forgot: it is also present in your softwarelist in the
configurationscreen of the desktopPC which you installed 1.0 from.

Shawn, thanks for the comprehensive answer - you describe exactly the
circumstances I had.

I will follow your solution and report back here as to the results.

Has anyone managed to get DRM ebooks onto their Pocket PC?

There is a procedure in the pocket manual of reader, but I didn't understand
it - and the instructions don't seem to correspond with the latest version
of acrobat..For example on p.15 is says: "In Adobe Reader, choose File >
Digital Editions > Authorize Devices" I don't have this menu on the desktop
version

I have a couple of pdf ebooks which I'm eager to get on my pocket pc - any
help appreciated.

thanks

Elijah

Not yet.
On the Adobe site there is a page where you can authorize different
versions of the reader for use with DRM. But that only offers optons for
the desktop version 6.02 and the Palm OS version. Not the PPC. And I'd
like to read some DRM-protected files on my PPC as well.

Adobe states on their site that they don't offer support for the reader
on PPC, but I sent them a mail anyway. I think that, since the program
carries their label and since they distribute it, they should offer some
support at the least. They didn't react so far, but if they will I'll
post the results here.
