HP 1015 install help needed!!

I am trying to install this printer on winxp. I ran an HP 6L for years
on the same box. I have installed many printers on many different
machines. This one's weird. Using parallel cable or usb, i get three
flashing lights on the printer, just as if there were no cable
installed. The computer in no way recognises the printer unless i
manually install it and then it won't print a test page. Just three
flashing lights.

The instructions in my opinion are not very good, make me doubt I have
installed the paper in the right place, or the toner cartridge in the
right way because the pictures and description are not exact, although
there seems to be only one way.

I installed as per instructions, the cd and drivers BEFORE plugging it
in. Any one have any tips? thanks, eric
