I have a D820 with a T2400 Centrino Duo. I have enabled dual core support in bios and verified this in device manager, but task manager shows only one cpu, there's no option to show two like with HT cpu's or multi cpu servers.

Is there some driver I need for dual core support or is it working correctly? The reeson I think it's not working is coz single threaded applications are pulling my cpu at 100% when they are busy, technically single threaded should only pull one core to 100%?

Thanks

Thanks for the help..

Under which section is ....pc ?
'Computer'? or perhaps 'system devices'?

I tried updating the one in computer but I only get 'standard pc' and advanced configuration and power acpi'. There is no multiprocessor option. I have checked my other dual core pc, and it has the option there, do I need to get a driver somewhere or point to a ini file somewhere under the have disk option?

And yes, I am a noob at dualcore.

I unticked it first time round, thats why i was wondering if i have to point to some location under the have disk option

Thanks.

I have 4 of these laptops in my department and they all were enabled when it was installed, none of them have the multiprocessor info though.

I will try to dig the info out of the windows repair folder from a working xp pc.

The hard way is to change SETUP.LOG in C:\WINDOWS\repair
I only have here the entries for Windows Server 2003's ACPI Multiprocessor which I don't think will work in Windows XP.

Do you have any tips? Like which dll's do you use in 2003?

The laptop uses Hal.dll, strange enough my pc which works uses the same dll. Theres no other hal dll in the setup.log.

I am trying to reinstall one of the laptops myself, and not through the admin department (apparently they installed the laptops via Ghost images which could be the source of the problem)

Thanks for the help! I definately learned a few things. Didn't know you could press F5 there.

If it works reinstalling, could I just copy the new HAL.dll to the other laptops to avoid reinstalling? Obviously copying in safe mode or something.

I checked the original filename on the HAL.dll.

On laptop it's halacpi on pc its halmacpi.

I reinstalled one of the laptops and it works now.

How can I apply these changes to the others without reinstalling?

Do I just replace the hal.dll and hal.ini?

Thanks

You'll never have to ask...It's offered freely.

I was just being honest. And, I don't feel like wasting my time arguing with you (that's why the "rigid back bone" ).

You're giving your opinion for free? It is so useless you have to give it for free? I don't want it. Things that come for free aren't good.
Maybe you should try to look at the mirror and give an opinion to that guy, but I don't think he'll want it either.

LMAO!

A dash of spite for ABL, who thoroughly walked into that line.

I haven's seen this much high-voltage banter since that speed freak was down here over a year ago. Cant even remember his user name...nup...not coming to me.

You must admit though that writing "STFU, I didn't ask for your opinion" is rather silly on a forum like this, in fact it is idiotic on any forum

Reply to BigMac

Yes. STFU would have sufficed [/attitude]

Did I ask for your opinion, Dr Jekyll? or is it Mr Hyde this morning?

Reply to BigMac

Actually, this morning it's Barry White. I'm using his decaying skin as a sleeping bag. And I'm having his bloated spleen for breakfast.
