I want to basicly make a few tweaks on my computer. I run at 32C Idle, and I want to get a little more peformance out of my PC. I plan on getting all new stuff in a year, so I just wanna tool around with this PC and see what I can do.

CPU-Z
*CPU-P4 2.8 HT (CodeName: NorthWood)
*FSB-133 Mhz
*BusSpeed-532Mhz
*MoBo- LanParty Pro (Model- Canterwood)
*Chipset-Intel, i875P
*Ram- DDR-SDRAM (512MB * 2)
*Timings and Frequency's
First Slot-
166 MHZ
2.0 4 3 7

Second Slot-
200 MHZ
2.5 4 4 8

All I want to do is find out how to Overclock or just change a few things to get it running a bit faster.

I already got RadLinker for my Radion 9800 Pro (256 MB)..

As you can see, you can tell why I want to upgrade, or just start all over again. I don't need info on upgrading my PC, just info on programs (what programs?) on how to make my PC run a bit more faster.

Thanks for anyhelp.. p.s.- I would upload the image from CPU-Z but I do know how to upload from a file on my computer. (i'm new to TGDailY/Tom's Hardware)...

OK... in theory the slowest of your RAM can handle 166Mhz, so we'll assume you'll be able to run the bus up to that before the RAM craps out on you.

Canterwood was (IIRC) always officially capable of 200Mhz (800QDR) , so that shouldn't be a problem.

If your CPU FSB is 133 (533 QDR), then that suggests your multiplier is 21. a quick check shows that if you could get to 166Mhz (since that's the first obvious FSB bottleneck), then your CPU would run at 3.5Ghz. That's probably fairly unlikely without fairly high voltages, and correspondingly better cooling (Water probably)...

since your RAM is unlikely to die on you before the CPU hits problems, I would suggest setting the CPU:RAM ratio to 1:1, and make sure the PCI bus is locked at 33Mhz, and then slowly increment the FSB until you hit problems (testing in between with something like prime95), raise CPU Vcore until it makes it stable, then start increasing the FSB again.

Don't go over 1.65V or so, and keep an eye on temps. Try not to exceed 55C under load or thereabouts (which you'll probably do before you get to 1.65Vcore if you're only using the stock cooler).

Aside from that, there's plenty of information around here on fine-tuning stuff. You might even find your system better if you run your Memory Faster than the FSB....

Good luck....

Ok.. well in my Genie-Bios Settings I did have my CPU overclocked an Extra 255 MHz and the multiplier is 21. I just don't know how to overide my FSB. I can change my timings for my RAM but I'm not sure what correct timings I should choose, or what effect it will do. I'm not looking for AWESOME power, just whatever I can get wouldt distroying my CPU. Also, in Genie-Bios I can have my PCI/AGP/SATA set to i belive it was 33/66/100MHz... or AUTO... Its set to auto...

When i first got all my hardware I read taht my pc can preform at 800 Mhx FSB... maybe i was wrong. Also, prim95 is hard to understand. I was looking for something more easyier. Something that gives a better spaculation on what hardware should be changed to help performance. It would be nice to help find the next largest prime number, but personally it would take like 5 years of 24/7 use to get it.

any info would be greatly appreaciated... thanks for your help..

recently i've been reading on these forums about electromigration of these chips from giving it extra voltage.. so if you're planning on overclocking it you don't plan to be still using this system for like 3 more years or anything?

btw nice grammar lol

No, I don't plan on using this computer for longer than 12 months. I just wanna see what I can do to this PC to understand whats going on if I were to do it to another PC in the future. Basicly, I just wanna get a overclocking program and/or PC peformance diagnostics and see what actually's happening to my pc. I currently use Winbound Hardware Doctor Version 3.4.1.1. It works nicely to see what my RPM of my fans are, and case and CPU temp. Also I get my readings on all my voltages. I did notice that I had to change the -12V to -14.. cause I was hitting below -13. Other than that, no problems. My computer runs great. I just wanna see if I can squeeze all I can get out of my computer. I have never seen my computer over 42C. And I do have stock Cooling. My VGA card has a Zalman's heatsink with heat pipe attached to it.

Just wanna know of any programs that allow you to easily to Overclock/Allow better performance on my PC, so I can see what effects I can do to other PC's that I don't plan on having for over 12 months.

Something like RadLinker would be nice.. except this is for Radeion VGA cards. But something of the sort would be nice. Again, any help would be nice.

p.s.- grammer is the least of my worries...
