Hey guys, I built my first computer in January and I've been pleased with it. However, something weird has been happening and it started like a week ago. Whenever I shut down, the computer is totally dead, like the power button does nothing. However, I flipped the Power Supply switch off, waited a while, and turned it back on and everything works fine.

Does anyone know what's wrong? And will this method screw I'm doing screw up my computer further?

could be a faulty power supply or some mobo components not functioning correctly. have you another psu you can try. also re-check all connections especially power connectors including the ones that connect the power switch to the mobo

No, flipping off the PS power switch after shutdown will not hurt anything...

Just an annoyance, and assuming the PS itself is the first likely suspect....

What are your system specs?

(Just to ensure you are not attempting to run a dual 1900XT rig with an Opty 185 and twin Raptors with a 300 watt PS, etc...!) :-)

lol he'd be lucky if he'd be even able to boot with a 300w

due to the way it has to be fully powered down i'm starting to believe that it is maybe a capacitor problem. it sounds like the sytem has to be switched off to let any stored charge drain away before it can start again.
