HDD Space

hi, i am just interested to know why when i have a 80gb hdd it only allows for 74gb of free space excl. windows.

As wusy indicated, it's because HDD manufacturers aren't counting the same way anyone else that wants to measure disk space is...

They say 1000 B = 1 KB, 1000 KB = 1 MB, etc etc.
Everyone else says 1024 B = 1 KB, 1024 KB = 1 MB, etc etc.

80 "GB" * 10^9 / 2^30 = 74.5 GB
