Hey, I was wondering if FS2002 has taxiway signs and the
like.....because when I'm taxiing around ATC says taxi to 9 left via
taxiway B, K, G, M, and so on, and I'm like ummm, yeah, duh, I have no
clue where that is!!!

I don't have FS2002...I have FS2004 and it has runway markers and taxiway
signs. However, due to the limitations of the monitor, I don't rely on
them, but use the 'progressive taxi' line provided in the 'ground ATC menu'.
I'm not sure if FS2002 has this feature, but if it doesn't, I'm sorry
because I know I would be totally lost without it. When selected, the
'progressive taxi' creates a magenta, broken line to follow which eliminates
the need to read the signs and prevents you from getting lost. Check to see
if you have it, and if you do, use it.
Good Luck,
Arthur

If memory serves me correct 2002 had poor or no taxi markings, and I used
the progressive taxi option to get around. 2004 has better markings but you
can still get lost if you make the wrong turn. As Arthur says progressive
taxi is still required in most cases.

When I first landed IRL at big airport in a tiny C152 (it was Fort
Lauderdale Exec) I could really have done with that magenta line IRL !
ISTR that the taxiway signs were one of the big 'wish list' items for FS
2004 and one of the reasons why many people upgraded to it. If anyone out
there is still using only FS2002, I would strongly recommend that you
upgrade to FS2004. It needs a little more CPU power but not much. But it is
a quantum leap, and will help to make you ready for the next step. I am sure
it can be bought quite cheaply now.

Drew,
FS2002 has no taxiway signs, unless you have downloaded and installed
add-on airport scenery that someone has created with taxiway signs. But
alas, the default FS2002 program does not have these. However, FWIW FS2004
does come with taxiway signs for almost every airport in the program.

Hi Bill
I use an almost default version of FS2002, and you're quite right: the
ground markings are indeed quite feeble.
Switching from the 2D to the Virtual cockpit view does seem to help a
little. However, like you and others, I agree that those pink
progressive arrows are the way to go ... unfortunately.

Another option, that can be used along with progressive taxi, is to download
the airport diagram for the airport where you are. These diagrams label all
of the runways and taxiways.
You can usually only get them, though, for larger airports. Diagrams for
the US can be found here:

Some time ago there was a website: www.TaxiwaySigns.com where a number of FS2002 taxiway sign scenery were available
for download. Here's the local collection of taxiway sign addins..
sorted by FILENAME.

Hi Matt
Agreed, there is that choice. But, as you state, such an option is
usually available only for larger and well-visited airports.
Personally, I do like Quilling (tm) about the place and only rarely
land at my expected airport. Moreso, having landed at a chosen strip,
even a welll-chosen one, I find that the view from the cockpit is less
than excellent in FS2002.
Or course, some more forward planning on my part would certainly help
matters.
I'm fine with some airports: those where I actually know the layout of
the runways and taxiways.

See if links below contain the FS2002 signage described in DIR lists..
