My (aussie) machine.............. parts are as follows,

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice Core @ 2.42Ghz
Asus A8N-SLI Premium Mobo
2 x 512mb Kingston DDR400 CL3 (@ CL2.5)
1xLeadtek 7800GT eXtreme Edition (@ 450/1050)
1xWD1200BB + 1xWD2500JS + 2xWD2000JD(RAID 0)
LG GSA-4163B 16x DVD Burner
Vortec 600Watt Power Supply - perspex side w/red lights

Running everyhting at stock, I got the following scores running the standard 3DMark 06 test which comes with the free version (can't afford to buy it using our dollars :p.)

1655-1629-946
Total - 3697 3DMarks

After some looking around tho it seems that with a similar setup, scores of 3900-4950 are not all that uncommon. Admittedly, this is not a BFG or eVGA like those which I have seen pulling those marks at 'off the shelf' clock rating, but still, i wouldn't think that simply the brand would make such a huge difference. This was confirmed by me when i pulled up my sleeves, downloaded RivaTuner and OC'd to 470/1100(0 artificacts) and recieved the following:

1688-1661-984
Total - 3787 3DMarks

Yeah, it was that equation '(score<3800Marks) + (temp>81*celsius)' which is making me ponder if there is something else... something mysterious... ruining my scores. Was my choice of Leadtek really that poor? Is there something I'm missing here? Is there a trade secret which I am the only one missing? Or... am I just being melodramatic? I honestly do not know... that is why I am here.

Similar benchmarks, opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Shadow

Just for reference... my 3DMark05 score pulled 7538 all up too. So.. are those ~300marks less in 06 and ~500marks in 05 normal based on the OC and brand, or is something in my system holding me up?

ı think your scores are normal it was 3453 befor ı overclocked my gpu

but you can push your cpu a little more and get some more points

one more think there is a very big difference between 470 and 474 because of these 7 series have three different clock speeds.
you can search about it on the net

My latest rig score ( default settings ):

3d mark 03 = 28094

3d mark 05 = 10042

3d mark 06 = 7004

I don't know about you guys but I can't register my 2001se benchmark.
Anyhow I don't even know how this score translates into game performance.

:?

Yeah, I played with it a bit more and it seems a lot better now. True that changing the clock from 470 to 474 has made a difference. In fact, it has somehow brought my temps down by a massive amount... unfeasible even. Just been playing tonight with the card and now it's sitting @ the following.

Card is -Leadtek 7800GT Extreme Edition @ 474/1160
Temps are -Idle at 51 degrees and load at 71 degrees with stock cooling

On 3Dmark06 managed the following score with these settings:
1759-1746-1012
Total Score: 3948 3DMarks

Now, there are no artifacts as yet but with my limited exp (a) should I try for some more speed, (b) how bad is this heat range and and (c) how far can I go before I should start worrying?

I think you should stop at these settings with stock cooling. you know the core slows down by itself automatically at 110 C but beyond 80 is no good in my opinion. If you want to try your luck a little more go till you see some artifacts(you can use ati tools) but it is meaningless to push it anymore, get a better card :)
