MS has commented, that "ATAport" will be in newer operating systems with a
native ,tested SATA driver, Tests show that XP does not have the bandwidth to
fully support the speeds claimed , by Disk Drive makers, XP was tested thru
ATA6
133, XP was released before SATA showed up ATA 1-6 was the featured drives
when testing took place, Should MS add in ATAport mini driver to XP , in
otherwords retest it for SATA and then make adjustments to optimize for these
drives, that were prematurely released without full operating support ?

other problems in this area is with circuit board makers, pci 2.1 ect is 33MHZ
since this is on all non workstations and servers, 133 MB/s is maximum on
these bus lines, 150MB/s SATA is impossible, do you understand? SATA drives
are short of operating system and circuit boards that are consumer based,
they made a huge error , in there Drives , MS and other have said Drives have
always been the slowest part of computers,,,mem speed are 1.0- 6.4GB/sec ,
disk drive are 133MB/sec in raid 0 with fully saturated pci bus line,, see
the difference
133mb/s vs 1-6.4GB/s ,,OOPS,,,MS can't bail them out , it takes all
circuit board companies to upgrade to 66mhz pci or higher to get disk drives
up to par speed.

So, what's your point? Once Intel overcomes the delays in its next chip and
chipset, new boards are scheduled to be released that support the new
PCIExpress and SATA drives. Are you saying Microsoft should not include
such a driver in anticipation of a hardware change that has already been
approved and most manufacturers will be releasing?
How does this effect you, it costs you nothing while the OS would stand
ready for the next generation of hardware due out shortly. This change is
the biggest hardware change in recent years and the transition is already
under way. It's to Microsoft's advantage to attempt to keep pace with new
technologies. The OS and the hardware compliment each other.
What you're talking about is a transitional phase which will be complete
when the new hardware begins arriving next year. Since SATA drives are not
only already available but also being shipped in many OEM and shop built
systems, not to mention the number of home built users that have snapped
them up in anticipation, offering them the ability to move them to new
boards when they are available. It would make no sense for Microsoft not to
include compatibility for technologies this close to completion and
introduction.
