AMD and CryTek today announced the release of a 64 Bit patch for FarCry. It requires the original 32 Bit version, and must be installed on Windows XP Pro x64.

Reviews can be found <A HREF="http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/DevelopWithAMD/0,,30_2252_869_875^10543,00.html?redir=IEGFC01" target="_new">here</A> or <A HREF="http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=125&page=1" target="_new">here</A>. I was not impressed with FarCry at all...played it for an hour and promptly uninstalled it.

if you were unimpressed by far cry, you dont like first person shooters, or you dont like great graphics. other possibilities are your computer sucks ass or you only like fps cartoons like unreal 2k4. or maybe it was just too difficult for you?

Ouch :)

Personally I don't see the point in this 64 bit remake unless you haven't played the game before. I can't see myself (had I got a 64 bit cpu with 64 bit windows) rushing to reinstall this just so I get sharper textures and increased view distance.

Whoop de doo. Big deal.

That's alot of assumptions jihiggs...all of which are wrong. It just didn't live up to all the gay hype that came from people like you that have these wacky reactions when someone has an opinion contrary to your own. FC is a pretty game, but i got a cheesy feel from the game early on and had no desire to play more than 30 minutes.

Just for comparison's sake, how long did you have the desire to play Doom3?

He has a fair enough point mind you. I tired of Farcry the minute the monsters came into it. It was a pretty game with excellent AI but just lacked something.

I have at least 10 shooter games, including FC and D3 and the only game I finished was MOHAA. I think about that every time I want to buy a new game. "Why buy another when I have several that I can finish." I jumped on HL2 for $35 and have a feeling I might finish it. I played it twice so fare and look forward to playing it again, at least so far. That’s more then I can say about the other games I played, where I pretty much forgot I had them after the first couple plays.

You got Call Of Duty and it's exp pack? That still ranks as my favorite FPS.

Personally I find HL2 boring. I seem to be one of the few people that think that mind you but nothing about the game excits me, it's devoid of atmosphere.

Doom3 is great, but I can't play it alone, too scary, so i got my wife to watch and she really loves it now. My wife absolutely loved HL2...I was running at 1600x1200 and getting over 80fps...I popped my online cherry playing MOHAA and was blown away...I still play it and I'm in a MOH clan, but most of the guys play Desert Combat now. After HL2, COD is the best single player experience for a shooter. I can't wait for the HL2 Expansion coming this summer. My wife is too stubborn to learn the control scheme, so she just plays Generals, and Rise of Nations by herself...if she ever learns the keyboard controls, she will Pwn us all at CS.

I'm vehement in my opinion that D3 looks good, is initially incredibley scarey but ultimately rubbish but each to their own :)

I am considering purchasing the following pc and was wondering if it is any good for games like Half life 2 , doom 3 etc... or if I should upgrade:

CPU AMD64 939 3500+
Motherboard ASUS A8VE-DELUXE
Memory OCZ Dual Channel 1024M 512MX2)PC3200
Hard Drive W.D/MAXTOR 200G SATA 8M
DVD-ROM/CDRW Pioneer 109 16X Dual Layer DVD±R/RW
Floppy Drive N/A
Video Card GIGABYTE GF FX6600 256M TVO (PCI-E x16)
Sound Card O/B
Network Card O/B
Keyboard/mouse MicroSoft Multimedia K.B & Optical Mouse
Speaker Creative PlayWorks PS2000 Digital
Case XBLADE 503C with SIDE-WINDOW
Power 450W DUAL FAN

I was thinking of changing the video card to an
ATI / Sapphire X700PRO 128M TVO DVI. Does the 128mb/ 256mb video memory really make a difference?
Thanks,
Luke

You would be better posting those specs up in the CPU or graphics forum where better people than I will set you straight but if your spending all that cash on an upgrade why not save a little longer and get a 6800GT? Will serve you much better.

The computer will be fine... almost anything you buy today will do good for most games.

The performance won't vary too much from a model release 2 months ago..

I normally suggest buying all the new hardware after all the good games come out.. since they're released in spats, hardware follows suite.. so when the good games come out, the good hardware is released around the same time.

But the spec'd out PC will be fine.. I would stick with the GF card though, personal prefernce though.
The 128/256 will most likely help in the higher end games.. the games released in the last year or less.

You can run HL2 really well on that setup, but D3 is not as scalable with the dynamic lighting and normal mapping involved. There isn't a card on the retail market that can handle D3 at full tilt yet...probably the next gen will. Nvidia and ATI both are great, it's hard to make a bad choice provided you do a fair amount of research. Just remember this: Don't skimp on the Power Supply! Get more than what you think you need, so you can rule out power issues if you have problems later down the road.

Is this the 256MB/128-bit/DDR2 version?

If so, at least upgrade (for another $30 or 40) to the 6600GT 128MB/128-bit/GDDR3 version. Half as much RAM, but the type of RAM is much better and outperforms the 256MB/128-bit version of the 6600
