After making some changes to my home network including putting my HP Deskjet
930C on a new PC, there are two changes which I'd like to put back to the
way they were.
The printer used to switch on automatically when I sent something to print
from any PC, now I have to switch it on manually.
Worse still it now alway pushes out a blank page before every print job.

The new PC isn't just using the Microsoft drivers is it? The HP ones were
much better as I remember .

No. I went to the HP site and downloaded the drivers for XP for the 930C
