HI, i recently bought a SATA Maxtor diamondmax plus 10, 120gig and it is an improvement from my old 40gig ide. I ran sandra to test the transfer rate it it says i am only getting 50 meg per second. Is this normal as i would have expected it to be faster?
Thanks.

Quite likely. I believe the fastest ATA hard disks today can read about 80 megabytes per second from the physical disk surface: you'll only get full SATA speed when reading from the cache.
