I have a 7800GS thats clocked pretty high, and a system that seems to be a bit better than yours.

I also play COD2.

If you tried to play on high settings with your system, it would be a freakin' slide show.

I bet you play F.E.A.R maxxed out also.....dont you

I'm not ripping on your pc....mine isnt much better then yours.

You made the statement that your system plays COD2, with the settings maxed out, I'm simply stating that there's no way in hell it does.

Cry all you want, but I have an affliction for calling people on their B.S.

......it's kinda what I do.

I Agree With GeneticWeapon , I Dont Think 7800GS is Able To Play CoD 2 in Max Settings , Because IF a 7800GS Can Do That , So Why People Is Going To Buy 2X1900XTX (Croos Fire )

When you say max settings are you talking about AA/AF or resolution.

eg. 800x600 8AA/12AF
1280x1024 0AA/0AF

People buy 2 top end cards more for the bragging or the perception of having something better than most others. Or marketing hype got the better of them.

When I Say Max Settings , I Mean : 1024x768 +4xAA +16xAF ( Max Detail Possible ) But I Dont Care About Resolution Above 1024x768 !!
I Dont Think People Buy 1200$ Graphic System Just For Saying That "I Have Something Better Than Others"
...I Think People Buy 2 x X1900XTX (or 2x ASUS 7800GT Dual (4GPU) ) JUST To Play F.E.A.R. in 2048x1536 + 4xAA

LOL, sorry, just an example for the original poster.

$1200, that's $2200 downunder for those two cards.

Yeah, that resolution would take some serious power!!!

I was thinking of buying one of those cards for a little while a few weeks back. After reading the amount of complaints on those two forums I'm glad I stuck with Ati. Looks like you have a bad card there. I hope you are following what the others are doing already and returning it.

Maybe Nvidia's way of telling agp users to change, I hope not. Me, I'll change when I'm ready or have to.

Um, I'm running a 7800GS card on an 845 chipset, and it runs the CoD2 demo at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and all options maxed out. Hardly surprising as it's an Xbox-360 game, and the Xbox-360 has a fast GPU and relatively slow CPU, so it's graphics-limited.

Similarly, the FEAR demo is playable at 1024x768 with 4xAA and all settings maxed out. 1280x960 with medium textures, no AA and no soft shadows is better though: that way it doesn't chug when I move to a new area.

Most new games are more likely to be graphics-limited than CPU-limited. And games that _are_ CPU-limited probably run at 100+fps on a 2.8GHz P4 anyway.

and I had a 1.4Ghz Celeron with a GF4 (in and AGP2x slot) that outperformed a friends 3.0g P4 with a FX5200 in Halo.

The only downside was the save points, where everything would completely freeze until the 100Mhz FSB and memory were free again.

COD2 hammers the video card. Even though the demo's option don't go as high as the full game, No way should you play the Demo at 1600x1200 max details and 4X FSAA. You would be getting single digit low framerates with an average in the upper teens if you ran those settings on a 7800GS. I have a BFG 6800U OC, A64 4000+, 2GB LL ram, and it gets reduced to framerates in the teens at times at 1280x1024 at 4XAA and AF at max demo detail settings. I play COD2 demo at 10x7 4Xaa w/AF which gets a little better fps than 12x10 same settings but without FSAA.

the FEAR demo is playable at 1024x768 with 4xAA and all settings maxed out
And as far as Fear, [H] found that 800x600 2X/4X and no softshadows was the best playable setting in Fear on a BFG 7800GS OC.

Shrug. Well, I am.

Now, it's possible that the demo is ignoring the settings I've chosen, but I've selected 1600x1200 with 4xAA and all other settings maxed out, and it's running perfectly playably.

You can claim I'm not as much as you like, but that's the reality.

"Um, I'm running a 7800GS card on an 845 chipset, and it runs the CoD2 demo at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and all options maxed out."

It might "run" it, but, so will a 6800GT...and probably as fast.

If those framerates feel playable to you, then enjoy those settings....

(What the other posters are basically saying, I think, is that they are aware of what sorts of framerates a 7800GS delivers in various games, and that fluid framrates in COD2 at 1600x1200/4xAA is a challenge to even a 7900GT, much less a 7800GS that should have been appropriately called a 6850GS...)
