Hey, thought i might share this with you, and if this turns out to be really stupid then i'm sorry.

While doing back ups using norton ghost 9 on both my computers, 1 P4 prescort 3.0 and a 3500+ venice, they both ran full load for a good 3 hours, not a bad way to stress test your processors hey?

Ghost uses compression algorithms for compressing data..
So, yes.. cpu is heavily used..

You can also select the level of compression before you start ghost..

Ghost can stress your system, including chip, hdd and ram.
Unfortuneatly that may not be the best way of finding out there is something wrong with your system.
I used to use ghost to set up windows on systems. It would usually complete a win98 install in 20 minutes or less. (multi-user license, so it was even legal) One time, I got as batch of bad ram. It spoiled my hole day.
As far as I am concerned, F@H is the best way to stress your system.

I find this kind of interesting... stress testing.

I've used Ghost Enterprise for cloning for company. Never really thought of it as stressing the CPU that much. But with high compression, ya, I can see CPU usage would be pegged most of the time.

Though on Prime95 and Folding.. hard to say what really does more of a stress test on a single core.

Why I say this is..

1.) Runing Prime95 seems to get CPU temps higher - but when I run Quake 3 demo with Prime running, its smooth or playable with some jerky movements. I guess the system is adapting for performance better.

2.) Running Folding gets about 2-3C Cooler though it is 100 usage. Running Quake 3 demo, is jerky.. more unplayable. On this, I guess the system is not adapting very well for performance.

This is on a P4 2.66 533FSB system, on stock HSF(AS5), stock speed.
CPU@100PCT load Prime - 55 C
CPU@100PCT Folding 40051 - 52-53C
