DSUB is the 15 pin VGA connector that has been the "standard" monitor connection for more than 10 years now. It is an RGB analog connection which was designed for CRT (tube) monitors which are also analog.

DVI (Digital Video Interface) is a digital monitor interface. LCD monitors have individually addressable pixals. You can go directly from the digital frame rendered by your graphics card to the digital monitor without going through an analog stage and back. This is mainly an advantage if your windows resolution is set to match the native resolution of your LCD monitor (usually 1280x1024 for 17" and 19" monitors.)

thx, one more question. i have a 19" Hyundai B90A LCD monitor. the native resolution is 1280x1024, is there anyway to push the resolution higher? iv tried makeing a custom resolution of 1600x1280 but when i applied it it said "monitor does not support this resolution" or something to that affect.

Even if you could push it higher, it is is not recommended. LCD displays are optimized to operate best at a particular resolution - the native resolution. Running at any other resolution degrades the image. If you want higher resolution, you need a newer monitor that supports it.
