ATI X800 GTO/GTO2 or 6800 GS AGP?

Alright, I'm trying to get life out of my AGP system (P4 2.66/Asus P4C800 Deluxe Mobo). I'm opting for an ATI X800 GTO/GTO 2. What do everbody think about these cards compared to the 6800 GS? I was consider These X800 GTOs:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102608

Or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102609

I don't really know the difference between the two. I just know one has an L at the end of the number before it says X800 GTO. If I were to get a 6800 GS, I was considering this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130264

That model is roughly $50 more than the X800 GTO's. I can't seem to find a place that sells a decent amount of GTOs. If anyone knows, let me know. Thanks for any of the help you can give me. I was also thinking about how the 6800 GS supports SM 3.0. I wonder if that'll make a significant difference.

I Say Go For 6800GS , But If Can Spend a Little More Money Go For ATI X800XT , It Far Faster Than X800GTO Or 6800GS , And If You Have Lots Of Money Go For XFX 7800GS eXtreme Edition
But From These Card (X800GTO,X800GTO 2,6800GS) I Say Go For 6800GS

I have the x800XT, x800GTO2, and 6800GS. The x800XT is not faster than the latter 2, and the 7800GS is a PoS. The x800GTO2 is the best, because you can unlock the extra pipelines to have an x850XT. I can OC the x800GTO2 to 555MHz Core and 1300MHz Memory, gives it about 6700 in 3DMARK05.

My 6800GS's in SLI are 425/1000 stock, they're factory OC'd to 485/1100, and I have further OC'd them to 515/1250, and I can get to 565/1300. You should easily be able to hit 500/1200 with the GT and not worry, if you want to test the waters, go for 525/1250, you may get artifacts at first, so run 3DMARK05 Graphics Test 2 (The one with the butterflies) that test, because of the Foliage, shows artifacts very well.

You need to clarify what you are saying, because Talking stock speeds, the X800XT destroys the GTO2 and beats the 6800GS easily also. The X800XT is 16-pipes, clocked 500/1000, compared to 12 pipes, clocked 400/980; no way in the world would they perform the same at stock speeds. Yeah, but unlocked and OC'ed to the max is a different story.

This is impotant to note because the OP wants AGP, meaning no GTO2, no unlocking. The AGP X800XT is clearly above a AGP GTO or 6800GS. If the GS could unlock, that would be different.

How much better might the GTO 2 be compared to the normal GTO? Can someone clarify whether or not the first 2 GTO's I posted at the top can be unlocked and OC'ed well, if so, to what extent?

I was talking PCI-E, so my post was invalid. And AFAIK, the AGP 6800GS CAN unlock but the PCI-E cannot. I have not compared them to stock clocks, but rather x800XT @ stock vs. 6800GS @ 515/1250, so thank you for correcting me, I can get ahead of myself sometimes heh. But I would recommend the 6800GS AGP, I know for a fact some of them can unlock and overclock'd, it can beat any AGP card, except the 7800GS of course.

Neither of those can be Unlocked. The GTO2 and GTO both use R480 GPU, they are exact copies of each other except the GTO2 can be unlocked with a BIOS flash.

Well, I'd still have the option to OC it. How well do you think I'd be able to OC it to. I can get the cards for around $170 with shipping, So do you think it's worth the $50 increase to get the 6800 GS, even if I OC'ed the GTO?

Dang, I thought the 68GS was about $175, at least the PCI-E versions are. Get the x800GTO can overclock to 550/1150, that's a good safe OC and you'll be happy with it.

Will I need a 3rd party cooling solution, such as thermal paste and/or an ATI silencer? If not, what clocks do you think I could reach if I got those?

Most GTO's/GTO2's are not R480's, and they are deffinately not exact copies of eachother.

You seem to be the minister of mis-information in this thread :?

Really depends I guess, I thought GT's and GTO's were new SKU's that used
failed R480 cores. But GW's seems to be right as many appear to be R430 based as well...

The GTO you're looking at, is the same one that I had. I would've bought the 6800GS, but I couldnt seem to waite a week for it to be released.

If you buy the GS, dont be disapointed if it doesnt unlock without artifacting.
........most dont, regardles of what you read on the internet.

Hmm..and you seem to be the minister of copying from google.com . I'm getting sick and tired of you "veterans" who take things literal and put down somebody else, so pathetic, and I get flamed for being mean, pff go figure.

That's because you'd used almost every x800GTO, right? Pff, good one "veteran".

Wow. Can I get people to stop flaming each other like children, and actually stay on the damn topic. If you want to flame, please go elsewhere. Because the advice given in this thread is going to affect the use of someone's hard-earned money. So, if you will, keep your childish outbursts strictly to the lovely PM button...thanks

Also, how much can you usually find an AGP X800 GTO Fireblade edition, X850XT, and X850XT PE? Also, if you all know where to find one reasonably priced, drop me a line. Thanks.

You can accept the oppinion I'm offering, or dont. I can give you a first hand account of what the GTO you're looking at is capable of, but in an effort to simply summarize, Id buy the 6800GS.

I see you take these forum titles very serious, it's a shame really, because they mean nothing. How very shallow of you.

As somebody who like's to give advice on the boards here(which you seem to be), I certainly hope that you'll spend some quality time, reading some reviews, and getting a better understanding of that in which you profess to people.

I've personally seen you give misadvice to people, and say things that simply are'nt true about a particular piece of graphics hardware.
