Try snagging a 7900 GT for about $300. That's only $40 more, and you will seriously get like twice the performance out of it (plus I think it will use less power). I would also go for the Corsair XMS series. 1 GB of that is $93 (all of these prices are Newegg), so that'll be about $750. Try grabbing the 3700+, which will bring you up to around $800. That leaves you enough for a decently sized hard drive and an optical drive, though if you could save up $1000 you'd be able to afford a really nice hard drive and two optical drives.

Looks great :D

Great parts all around but I would agree with the other poster that suggested the 7900GT it is a much better card and is only $299 and (should be) dropping in price.

Good luck!

Looks great man. I agree, shell out an extra few bucks and get an eVGA 7900GT video card, you'll appreciate it more later. Don't worry about getting the 3700+ cpu, you can easily OC that 3200+ to 3700+ speeds and beyond, save that extra money and invest in a good heatsink/fan. Keep that system quiet and cool.

I might suggest though dropped a few more bucks on some other memory non-value select. Get some good memory, you don't need top tier expensive memory, but dependable memory. From reviews I have seen that value select can be occasionally iffy :?

Well, that's my two cents. Good luck 8)

agree w/the 7900gt.

u dun necessarily need xms unless u wanna oc, cheap xms really isn't worth that much anyway, although at 66.50, u mite be looking @ cas3 valueselect, mite wanna either go w/the <100 xms or at least cas2.5 valueselect that should be maybe 15 bucks more

see if u can get the ada3200[CG]box 3200, that should be 10-20 bucks more aftermarket msf only if you wanna OC like crazy, the stock setup should be able to give you 2.4-2.5ghz, so theres really no need to get one. nab a $40 lite-on dvdrw drive, i do NOT advise the lightscribe version unless you have a particular commercial need for it.

ps.
in regards to the previous post, i have not had any bad experience dealing w/corsair's valueselect ram, aside from not being able to run as fast as ram that costs twice as much

k. I'll look into the 7900gt. Any suggestions on fans though? They all look the same to me :?

Get a Retail boxed CPU -- it will include a very good heatsink and fan + a 3 yr warranty for only a couple of bucks more.

OEM = NO warranty NO heatsink or fan

EDIT: The CPU you selected is retail boxed so it already comes with a heatsink and fan and thermal pad / heatsink compound so you're covered. You do not need anything else.

I thought OEM had 1yr warranty.

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_11120_11126,00.html

Boxed AMD CPUs have a 3 year warranty.

OEM CPUs do NOT have a warranty from AMD.

Newegg offers a 7 day refund period and 30day replacement period.

Many other vendors offer a 7-14 day warranty on OEM CPUs IF they offer any warranty at all.

OEM CPUs

* Refund period: 7 days from original invoice date.
* Replacement period: 30 days from original invoice date.

Retail CPUs

* Refund period: 7 days from the original invoice date.
* Replacement period: 30 days from original invoice date.

Agree/disagree

The 7900 is a better choice

The 3700 would be a better choice. I have both those chips, and the 3700 is signifigantly faster, and has more cache. A plus for playing games. oc'ing is ok, but I'm assuming, first build, you don't know much about it. Not worth the risk if you are unsure.

Dual core chips are "in", and looking into buying one now, would be something to think about.

apps and games will become more and more dual core friendly. And you'll be able to do 2 or more things at once, instead of waiting for one task to end so you can start another one.... just food for thought

Stock heatsink and fan are adequate, don't worry about that

Value select is ok memory. Can upgrade later if desired.

mobo: I see you chose one that only has one pci-e slot

Biostar 6100-939... stable, cheaper
asus a8n-vm csm slightly faster, a little cheaper

Just suggestions, I'm sire the one you picked will work out.

:D

If that makes CPU even cheaper than it used to be, it's all good! Of course I'll still be buying 2nd hand ones anyway. :p [/cheap bastard]

In fact, do you know where I can buy gfx card that comes without HSF&warranty?

Not sure if you're kidding or not...... maybe on ebay but I would not necessarily expect it to work...

Watch out for all the scammers and people charging $2 for the product and $80 to ship it.

http://www.ebay.com.au/

I don't think there is ebay NZ

You might also want to check out geeks.com

http://geeks.com/

They ship internationally and they SOMETIMES have good deals on old or obsolete stuff. Not so much on new stuff.

Heh...I've ordered everything but the graphics card. 7900GT is sold out and im reconsidering whether or not to get it. I'll probably only play games similar to guild wars and age of empires. I don't really mind playing it on medium settings either (currently have something called a 8MB Nvidia TNT2 Vanta LT so I don't know the meaning of good graphics  ). Anyways, I've been looking at the sapphire radeon x800gto and can't tell the difference between

SAPPHIRE 100139L Radeon X800GTO 128MB 256-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card - $102.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102691

and

SAPPHIRE 100131 Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - OEM - $165.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102608

*my friend added this
SAPPHIRE 100106SR-RD Radeon X850XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - $179.00
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814102505

The cheaper one has 128MB GDDR2 @ 700MHz while the more expensive one has 256MB GDDR3 @980MHz

The GDDR3 is better. The fact you get 2x the RAM is a plus but not as important a factor as you might think.

You really do not want the AGP one though. PCI-Express is a lot better.

You might want to consider a 7600GT however... @ $189

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&description=7600GT+PCI+express&Submit=ENE&Ntk=all&N=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0

It is a newer card, supports Shader 3.0, runs cooler, consumes less power and runs better in OpenGL in D3D it's hard to tell.

Be careful about the cards...one of them is AGP and the other is PCI-e. The motherboard you are getting is PCI-e, so you want that. but the difference between the 2 cards is amount of memory and memory speed. The latter one which is AGP has more and faster memory. You will want the 256mb that that card offers. 256mb is the "sweet spot" nowadays for cards. BTW, I am going to recommend to you the X800GTO2, they use a better core and often come fully unlocked to 16 pipes. Good luck with this system.

Indeed :-D

And the ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - $90.99

ONLY supports PCI-Express so you need to get a PCI-Express board. AGP will not work.
