Ok,

So when are these chip sets going to be avaiable to the public to buy? If they are already where can you get them?

Are they going to be quite expensive?

Conroe is a processor family. It is not a chipset.
They are not due until September, though Intel has hinted at an earlier release.
The earliest would be late July. I wouldn't count on anything before mid september.

I would say in 5 months time you'll be able to order them from any retailer. They will be fairly cheap for the low-end to mid-range. They are fast, run cool, and for the first time in 2 1/2 years will give the dekstop performance crown back to Intel in 2 core and 2x core (4cpu on a single package) configs.
Best of all it will flood the market with cheap X2's :D

Pricing of the new architecture will be in line with previous processor introductions. The E6700 model will cost $530 at launch, the E6600 will be priced at $316, the E6400 at $241 and the E6300 at $209, sources said. We were told that Intel plans to quickly ramp the production to have more processors available at launch than it was the case with previous products.

They Conroe processors are slated for release in Q3 of this year. Intel has said they may be released in July however, it could be September.

Here is a price list I found that shows how they should be priced at release.

4-5-6 months.
Intel always releases on time so we'll probably get them in august.
