And a geforce 7900GT graphics card.

So what do you think?
Is everything compatible?
Will I be able to use DX10 if I replace the video card with a DX10 card when they become available?

Thanks

I would get a matched dual-channel pair like this Patriot 2Gb CL2 for $200 w/ a $50 MIR - but today is the last day on the rebate. I just got my second pair this weekend... Works well in my EVGA SLI mobo w/ X2 3800.

Whats the difference between paired and not paired ram?

Matched will be more stable when running your memory in dual channel. Seperate question do you plan to overclock? Cause if you do the DFI mobo's would be a better choice, as well you might want a little better ram such as corsair XMS series dual channel kit.

I'm not really planning to overclock. I just want to get the best system possible. I know a lot about computers but there are so many different manufacturers today that it gets confusing, and I got little experience when it comes to building PCs.
I just want your opinions on which components to buy, if they're all compatible and the best manufaturers.

Thanks

If that is the case you have a pretty nice system planned out.

Direct X 10 will probably not be available for WinXP OS, but only on Vista, but I'd expect 7900 series cards are probably already compatible with Direct x10 feature set...

I'd probably save another $75 or so, and get the X2/4600+ instead...same 2.4G, just a smaller cache, and quite similar gaming performance....

"and the 7900 will have support for Vista, so you shouldn't worry."

"Support for Vista" is rather misleading, and is not quite the same as saying "supports Direct x 10"; Vista will have less stringent (Direct x 9, 8 etc., )rendering solutions for older video cards as well...

Many video card makers are touting their "supported by Vista" advertising labels, but I don't see many yet saying they "support/implement Direct x 10", curiously...

my rig is nice!

If you're willing to OC, that would save you some money. Keeping the same mobo, get a Dual-Core Opteron instead, and OC the hell out of it. It's possible to just get a $40 CPU Heatsink and OC a 1.8Ghz Dual-Core Opteron to Athlon X2 4800+ levels. With that saved money, you could get a RAM upgrade to 2GB.
