At work I'm attempting to string along some of our hardware for Windows Vista testing purposes. I'm attempting to buy a video card for a P4 2.4ghz machine that has an AGP 2x/4x slot available in it. What I'm wondering is if AGP 4x/8x is backwards compatible with the 2x/4x protocol? Can I buy an AGP 8x card and have it work in an AGP 2x/4x slot?

Any advice or hints you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Me mate has a i440BX board with AGP2x only and it runs 8x cards (the FX5200, aswell as the FX5600 and other cards) - it will work.
