well to make this short, cpuz says my memory is running at 3-3-3-8, and my bios shows 2-3-3-6, memory is corsair xms, rated at 2-3-3-6, its running at ddr400 in single mode (cause im on socket 754) theres 2x 512 sticks, in banks 1-3... system is

amd64 3700
1 gb corsair xms
160gb hd
creative xfi
x 700pro

so the question is, which one is right? and if cpuz is right how can i set it to 2-3-3-6, and why would it say its set at 2-3-3-6 in bios then change when booting windows? does it become unstable at those timings and reduce whilewindows is booting?

no, there auto, ive set them manually before and it just causes instability, which is why i was wonder if windows would loosen the timings to keep it stable? can it even do that  ...

Are those the rated timings?

Just because it's rated at those timings doesn't mean the SPD will run at them by default. Some memory does, some doesn't. I'd check your voltage as well, since some chips want more voltage than normal to run at tighter timings.

voltage says 1.75 runs at 1.78... timing are rated for 2-3-3-6 at ddr400, im looking at the timing... still says 3-3-3-8...

the memory controller is on the cpu, it has very little to do with bios, on amd64 at least...

same question he asked... does ne1 know or a memory program that can tell my timings for me? also is there sotmhing i can use (that i dont need to boot from a floppy) that will test my memory for errors, i think memtest boots from a floppy so ive never tried it...

my first guess with the timings was not enough power, but i ruled that out before posting... im lost now though, but a 3rd program to tell me my timings would reassure which one is correct, right now im going with cpu-z because my bios shows the wrong temperature too...

when i get home im going to try and run them in banks 1/2 instead of 1/3, theres only 3 dimms on my mobo and ive heard that having the last one filled can lower speeds/timings of the memory because of somthing to do with the electrical current... ill tell u how that goes, are u using 4x512 for urs, if so u may have the same problem... oh yes and also, if u have the same memory i have, thats rated at 2-3-3-6, i think for 2 gb is rated at 3-3-3-8... if u have the corsair xms like me...
