I'm the ashamed owner of a radeon 9250 (128Mb/DDR, 240GPU/200*2MEM)
I tried to OC that vidcard and I reached 280/225*2 with only a 3ÂșC increase in the case&mobo (according to the thermal sensor implanted....), my question is, can it be pushed farther and keep it in a safe zone? sure I can try 310/250*2, but I don't want a meltdown, there are not enough minerals or vespene gas to replace it and it's my b3loved piece o crap.
Another question is, can I unlock pipes on this? and if so, how can I?
Finally, not 4 this topic, but I'll take this chance, is there a way to pinmod a S754 sempron to unlock the multi? I've searched all over the place and I only found for SA semprons
If you want a good OC, get a new GPU cooler, and some copper heatsinks for the VRAM. The crappy stock cooler and lack of any VRAM heatsinks is what's really limiting my x600 OC.
I thought of that, but I'm looking for a "non invasive" solution , this pc is for ALL my family, I amd the main user, the rest of the ppl use it for outlook and a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit of browsing, this c r a p has a "warranty sticker" if it's removed (by opening the case) BB warranty! (and BB me, I wuld be hanging from the nearest tree, thnx mom xD)
I could save a little bit, sell this junk & get an EVGA 6600 256Mb for 115$ (the most I can afford is 120), I was going to do that, but my car got angry at me and blew the brake pump, so money goes flying......
What's the best bang for tha buck in the <120$ range (for AGP cards)?
In the meantime, I'll have to wait at least to august, but with luck, until may, using this card (30FPS in HW2, high quality on everithing 2xAA, 4xtrilinear AF, and with lotsa ships in tha move and LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTS of space dust, I'm lucky to get 15FPS )
So long, a 40core/50mem boost has only improved my gaming in about 3FPS and the filtering downgrades it by 4FPS...disabling it only helps a liiiiiiiiiittle bit..

Here are some nice cards that I found in your price range:
Or you could just get a cheap new motherboard with PCI-Express.
for a $110 budget, and considering the card he has, I doubt there's a board out there for his CPU socket and system that he could upgrade too and still have money for any video card.
Normaly, I would advocate saving the money for a new system, but if you're talking a $100+ dollar budget, the 9800SE for $65 is a huge upgrade, you won't even have to change the drivers, and the price is not going to hurt you much in the way of future upgrades.
It won't blow you away in today's games, but it will get you some eye-candy and perform fairly well, and you can probably squeeze some more out of it with overclocking.
I know there's some difference between 128 and 256Mb worth of VRAM, my question now is, is it TOO MUCH, MUCH, or just a little bit? from what I've seen on the benchies here, it's bout 100points in 3DM05. I could get this easily
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814121197 It's an ASUS 6600 128Mb (90$) it's the same card I wanted (evga 6600 256) but with half the VRAM, so, is it justifiable to spend 30$ on double-sizing the VRAM? I know that "the answer lies deep inside my heart" and stuff, but if there's a little difference (say 5-10fps) I think it's not worth it (in my case, if I had the loot, I'll sure take it xD)
In response to Angry Duck, yes, I'd like to purchase some pci-e mobo, but I'll wait til next year, I want to see how the whole AM2 stuff will end and wait for lower prices ^^, not to mention the already insane vidcard competitions VIDCARDS GO WILD!xD
I love Moore's Law ^^
BTW, has anyone watched "The Decline of Videogaming" series?xD

A couple things: 1) 5-10 fps is a HUGE difference, especially if it's from 20-30 fps. It's like night and day; the difference between playable and not playable. 2) The 6600GT, despite having 128MB of VRAM, is a much faster card than the "vanilla" 6600. 3) There's not a very big difference between 128MB and 256MB of VRAM. 4) It's angry_ducky; not duck, and don't forget the underscore . 5) Keep rockin' your "b3loved piece of crap"; my x600 is total crap, and I love it . 6) If you want to overclock your card really high, get an old CPU heatsink, some Arctic Silver, some copper VRAM heatsinks, and have at it!
That's the hole I was for 8 years....stuck with a PI-233mhz 64Mb SIMM... xD
I said that fps range cuz it's what I need to get 30fps in HW2 when there's a lotta nebulae and battleships and cruisers and destroyers, and missiles, and flashes, and stuff

I know, the GREATEST upgrade I had was going from a 3.2 Gb 5200rpm HDD to a 30Gb 7200rpm HDD...
Oh! and going from a Trident 9650 4Mb PCI (that crap didn't ahve int video xDxD) to a 64Mb Nvidia MX400
All of my friends had better rigs than mine, now, I own the most powerful rig of them (except for one that has an A64 S939 3200+ and a friend with the same pc as me but with a 6200 256)
Truly a great leap (not a leap ahead!!!xDxD), and I expecto to continue next year V(^^)V
