Is Opteron good for gaming?

I was either going to get a opteron 165 which can easily be clocked to 2.4 or an 3800 x2 which can be clocked stable to 2.3
I was just wondering if opteron is good for gaming or whether it is just for a workstation. Also opteron would seem to be better because it has 2x1Mb cache

  1. it will work very well for gaming.
  2. You already had This thread going, no need to clutter the forums with duplicates.

Beside, the search feature works, use it, Opties in gaming 'rigs were discussed in multiple threads before...
  3. Heh.. I just got an idea.

Maybe.. when the 'Post a new topic' or 'Post a replay' window comes up...

Right above where you type, maybe they should installed a very big SEARCH button, with a side comment... like:

Plz use me, I'm very bored, I can find stuff for ya.

The socket 939 Opty dual cores will perform identically to the X2/4400+ and 4800+ units when clock speeds are equal at 2.2/2.4G, which is certainly fine for any gaming rig....
