Will a 6800 gs perform fully on my P4 2.8gz?

My PC is a 4 year old P4 2.8gz, 1gig ram, 4x agp running on a 9700 pro.

I want to get another year of use out of this rig, basically to play FEAR and Morrowind IV. I want to upgrade to the 6800GS 256 Meg AGP. Would my system be adequate to support this?

Thanks,
Grant Berger

...I dont think it would be as big a bottleneck as we think. If you could unlock that GS and maybe push the frequency on your P4, might be a little more balanced system. But a new motherboard would sure be nice.

Not really, no(AGP 4X?) I would buy the 6800 anyways though, because you're always going to have a bottleneck somewhere.....it might as well be in the graphics card.

Think about what I just said...

4x AGP is plenty of bandwidth for a graphics card. Really, increasing it beyond 8x will have virtually no effect. Yet for some reason we have already moved onto 16x bandwidth. His processor would be the bottleneck.

Bought the PNY 6800 256mb AGP for 177 all included. I'll re post to share performance.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
