I have been getting the following BSOD screen on my system lately. Machine_Chack_Exception Stop: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x80545FF0, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F). One of the possible causes is memory. I ran memtest 3.0 on my system last night and it said it found 9 ECC_ERRS then locked up and didn't finish the test. I can't get it to finish and give me a report. Looks bad for the mem I guess. Any thought?

Note: The BSOD only happens at idle times like over night when no one is on the system.

Do you have any memory from another computer you can use. Or if you have a bestbuy near by run and buy some more memory and see if it still does it.

Generally speaking... if memtest itself crashes, one of two things are at fault: memory, or CPU.

You don't mention your system's specs... so it makes it even harder to recommend a solution. If you are AMD S754 or 939, you could have either memory or cpu problems (since the memory controller is on the CPU). Intel on the other hand can introduce a faulty motherboard.

Obtain some "known good" memory, and test IT on your machine. If it passes... yes, it's your memory. If it doesn't... now we are looking at mobo or CPU, depending on platform (though even an AMD K8 platform can have mobo problems, though to a lesser degree then Intel's with memory errors.
