i am thinking about buying
Sapphire X800SE 256M AGP8x Radeon X800SE 256M DDR TV-o DVi-i AGP8x
OR
nVidia GeForce 6600 256MB DDR AGP8X w/ VGA / DVI / TV-Out

can anyone help me on this? because Vid card is my weakest point...thanks guys..i need a new vid card cuz my GF FX 5600 XT 256 can't handle Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion...o_O...

X800SE costs 190$ CAD and GF 6600 cost 145$ CAD

Because i am tryin to keep my cost at a mimum...can someone please tell me how big is the advantage of the X800SE over the 6600? I was only able to find info on X800 GT and GTO but not SE

i know i made a post before about the 6800GS but its abit over my $ range and my friend has the 6600 and he says its awsome...pleae help =) thx~

The advantage goes to the X800SE because of it's 256-bit memory bus, and because it should be very overclockable. The 6600 has a 128-bit memory bus which severely limits it when paired with the low-speed 6600 memory.

The X800SE core should overclock to X800 GT specs easy.

I am a bit dumb when it comes to Vid card....but the 6600 is a 256MB tho...not 128...or is there a diff between the bit and the mb?

Alot of your friends don't live videocards like the guys on this board do.

They're plain wrong, both Geforce and Ati cards are excellent. The trick is to get the best one in your price range. The X800 SE is better than a 6600.

Now, you might be able to score a better card than both if you can afford an X800 GTO or 6800 GS though...

You are comparing the 2 cards right? The X800SE does't only support shader model 3.But with handfull of games that support sm3 in the market and the fact that the geforce 6600 cannot give you playable framerates with sm3 on - its a clear thing.

Edit: actully i just found a Sapphire X800 GTO open box for 212$ CAD ... i guess thats good? but...its open box :?
Or just found on....on sale now for 220$ for brand new...compare to the 6800GS which is 255$.....then which should i get? of the 35$ difference..

$220 new, go for it.

Strange how people are voting for the 6600 like crazy, without explaining their decision.

A 256-bit memory bus clearly gives the X800 SE the edge over the 6600. It's hardly even a contest, not sure what people are smoking... maybe just lots of Nvidiots out there :)

Still!

X800 SE:
8-pipe core @ 425 Mhz
256-bit memory bus @ 400 Mhz

6600:
8-pipe core @ 300 Mhz
128-bit memory bus @ 275 Mhz

So let's see.. the X800SE has 125mhz faster core, the memory is almost TWICE as fast, and with TWICE the bandwidth - so it's about 4 times as fast on the memory front.

Christ, an X800 SE is even on par with the 6600 GT. but a 6600 non-GT? Only a retarded monkey would choose a 6600 over an X800 SE.

And he'd have to be REALLY retarded...
