Fomating new SATA disc

HI

I have purchased a Samsung hdd (250GB SATA). This is my first SATA drive.
My mainbord is Gigabyte GA-8I955X Royal. I have 2 IDE drives installed now. The master disc have 2 partitions where one is systempartition with windows installed.
I want to replace it with the new sata disc. But I just get error when I try to create a partition or format it. I've been trying both with partition Magic rescue disc and Windows XP cd. I have no idea whats wrong.

I'd remove all the HDD's except the Sata and do a clean install.
