i bought a cheap mobo to build a p.c for my lad a few weeks back using a load of old parts, the motherboard being a asrock p4vm800, which as the intergrated s3 unichrome graphics chip, every thing works ok, but i've just got back a old geforce3 ti200 64mb i gave away last year, the new mobo as a 8x agp slot, that takes 1.5 volts cards only, is the ti200 3.3 volts or 1.5 ? plus is it worth putting in ??? and lastly the barring on the fan had gone so i told my brother to just disconnect the fan, not only did he disconnect the fan but the heat sink as well so i've got a ti200 with no method of cooling expect the warm air in the p.c case ... so if the ti200 is worth putting in any guesses on how long it will last till it burns out ???

cheers :)

I don't know about the voltage, but any cheap agp 4/8x card would be better.
Something like the nVidia 7300 or Ati 9200, as a starting point. Better if the budget allows.
What type of games does he play?

Try to make suggestions that fit. Don't point at PCI-E charts for an AGP only Motherboard.

As for AGP cards, you can find some deals on 6600GT's for about 120 to 130. NewEgg has an eVGA 6600GT for 139 with a $20 rebate.

Best bet on Bang for your Buck in AGP.

i bought the card a good few years ago, rescued it from the bargain bin for £27 so its had a good few more years of work when i gave it to my brother.i've had a look at the 6600 but there near £100 thats not far of $200 for a old out of date wont play any good new game graphics card !

I think the card would work fine in your mobo, but.... A GF3ti200 won't last at all trying to game without a vga heatsink on it. Are you sure your brother didn't fry it already? Did he game?

If you have a dremel and have some spare parts lying around, you could make one out of pretty much any old cpu heatsink. I wouldn't put any money into buying a heatsink/fan for a GF3 when you want to play farcry.

On the cheap, A used 9700 pro or 9800 pro would be about your best bet and will do just fine in farcry at your desired resolution.
