I recently purchased this card from Newegg.

eVGA 256-P2-N517-AX Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

A few days later they took it off their lists and replaced it with a card that appears identical for more money:

They also added the 7900GT at the same price I originally purchased my 7800GT for. eVGA 256-P2-N563-AX Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

The 7900GT has better specs... 24 pp 500mhz cc 1500mhz memory speed.

What are the differences good and bad in the design of these two cards? What the hell happened in the last 3 days? Furthermore, should I request a replacement 7900 from newegg? (The card hasnt even arrived at my house.) Thanks.

If you are patient, you might want to consider taking advantage of eVGA's Step Up program instead of just returning the card. You ship them the card, pay the difference between what you want to upgrade to, and they send you a new one.

I'm currently doing that to my 7800's right now, and it is very worth it. And a more viable option than returning your card and trying to find a 7900 somewhere that isn't out of stock yet.

Baaah, sell it at 300 bucks, theres still peeeepoles STUPID enuf to buy them overpriced, a few friends of mine did the same, actually made some profit, even after they bought their new card, omg.

The differents between the oc'ed EVGA 7900GT and the standard EVGA 7900GT is the bios, the other stuff is the same, EVEN the heat sink and FAN is same!!!! Just buy the standard non OC'ed EVAG 7900GT, and oc it yourself.

would i be able to buy the 500/1500 vesion and get the bios for 550/1580 or does it even matter, will coolbits get the 500/1500 up to the 550/1580 oc's ive seen (~ 600/1675)? is the more expensive card just a factory oc for idiots or will it actually oc farther?

the plan is to sell my 7800gt, pick up one of these 2 cards above, swap out my 512x2 of lingston value ram for a pair of 1gb ocz platnium pc3200 2-3-2-5 timings. add it all to my asus a8n-sli premium and sandiego 3700+ oc'd to 2.8 ghz and get some real gaming done

Yes return it if you can, the 7900gt is faster than the 7800GTX. I own the BFG 7800GT, love it but would trade in a heart beat for a 7900GT.
