Hey guys!

I just installed a pair of CORSAIR XMS TWINX1024-3200C2 ram sticks on a MSI k8n neo4-f board with an Athlon 64 3200+ Venice CPU. This memoy is supposed to work at 2-3-3-6 timings.

The problem is that when I set the SPD settings in the Bios it says "3-3-3-8" timings instead. I ran Everest Ultimate Edition 06 to make a check and it says this memory can use 2-3-3-6 timings when set at DDR266 speed and 3-3-3-8 at DDR400 speed :?: .

Since this memory is advertised as DDR-400, isn't it supposed to have 2-3-3-6 timings at this speed? Am I forgetting something or should I set it manually? Is there any problem with doing so?

Thanks.

1) You can't set SPD, SPD (Serial Presence Detect) is set by the manufacturer's to ensure that it works for everybody on first boot.

2) You can usually change the timings in your BIOS of the RAM to whatever you wish, provided the Memory Controller can handle it and you give enough volts.

That's pretty much it...change timings in your BIOS and set the RAM to 2.6v (That's normally Corsair's standard PC3200 voltage IIRC).

Thanks Mike,

What I meant with "set the SPD" is that I chose the "SPD" option in the Bios. Sorry if I wrote it wrong.

Take care, man... 8)

Even though corsair sometimes will have the SPD set to the optimum speed, most time you will have to set them manually like Mike said they usually set the SPD a little loose to ensure stability and bootup.

Ok, that explains a lot.

I've seen some guys setting timings like 2-2-2-5 with these sticks. Do you know what safe voltages should I set them to work at to use these timings? Should I turn off Dynamic Overclocking to work it manually?

Yes I would turn off dynamic oc and set it manually. I would check their website they will usually give the safe voltage range. Unless it is rated for 2.2.2.5 it will take a little luck and tweaking to get those timings.

2.8v is the norm for 2-2-2-5 DDR400.
