CPU Not performing as expected after OC

Opteron 165 OC to 290X9 = 2610

MB A8N - SLI premium

Benchmark CPU score on 3dMark 5698 CPUMarks seemed low when compared to other CPU benchmarks of the same speed. I see others AMD X2 chips with same speed at around 7000.

BIOS Setting for CPU
HTF Settings
RAM Settings

Anybody see any changes or problems with my current OC settings.

Suggestions on how to make it better?

If you are going to go for that much of an OC,

Change your cpu multiplier to 10x260 FSB

Raise your DRAMV to 3.00
Raise your HT V to MAX (1.25 or 1.26 I think?) BUT leave your HT Freq @ AUTO and Keep Cool and Quiet DISABLED
Bump your chipset Voltage up the extra notch
Raise your VCore to 1.5V (trust me, it will help stability 100%)
Reset your GFX cards to default, then

Run 3dMark with your GFX cards at default, and then again optimized OC and compare tests.

I guarantee you will get a better result. And your system should run stable, however you probably won't be able to run PRIME 95 at that high of an OC for any great length of time. Or you may need to lower your RAM SPEED a notch. And remember to monitor your temps if you do run with a heavy load, say PRIME 95 :)

"Change your cpu multiplier to 10x260 FSB"

Can't Max is 9. That is because of Opteron or MB... not sure. But list only goes that high

Raise Vcore to 1.5? Uhh... no thank you. Ran Duel instance of Prime95 for 10+ hours with no errors. at 1.39 volts. No reason to take it up to 1.5 V.... At least I don't think there is. I could be wrong but until i here a good reason i'll hold on that.

Was 3d Mark 05. My total score was 9504. But i was just looking at the CPU part of the test and comparing that to other CPU scores.

'3DMark scores' are not that CPU intensive at all.

You're only running a 7900 GT, not a 7900 GTX

Even 3DMark '06 only has 1 test that benefits, slightly, from having 4 cores.

My rig:
'06 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=84767
'05- http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1656988

I only run a (single) Radeon X800XL, I could run SLi x 7900 GTX if I was crazy, but don't.

You'll notice how well I score in the CPU tests, but the overall score is 90% video card 10% CPU.

If you want to benchmark CPUs use SiSoft SANDRA.
http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/

If you overclock your video card it may have throttling technology in it, much like the Pentium 4 does, so by overclocking too far it may actually reduce performance. :p

It may also be overall system configuration, usually (lack of) chipset drivers, and far less often, different video card drivers

:p Also you forgot to set minimum texture quality, force no FSAA, minimum mipmap quality, etc in drivers..... this is how people get +15% higher on their 3DMark scores, then overclock another +25% or so (until you get massive artifacts but the test just passes) to get near +44% higher scores. (1.15 x 1.25 = 1.4375). :p - That is how 3DMark ORB was left in the state it is in now. No Artifact testing enforced during testing makes it useless for comparisons. Seriously....

Yeah he was actually talking abou the LDT, the multiplier for the HTT, what speed do you currently have the HTT bus at?

i agree .. it must be your 7900gt ... i think you`ll have a better score if you clock your video card not cpu ... your cpu as it is looks good enough

As others have already stated 3DMark is a GPU test more than anything else.

It is also a synthetic benchmark and you should not always believe the results because synthetic benchmarks are highly unreliable and all manufacturers "optimize" for them.

SPECviewperf is a better benchmark but it is certainly not perfect.

http://www.spec.org/gpc/downloadindex.html

Make sure you run some game benchmarks as well.

Good luck!

Yeah, I agree with Linux, 3D Mark isnt that great.

Aditionally people sometimes like to play around with the settings to get the best results - they run a test that is tailored to play on there pc's strengths.
