Lasers Better Than Inkjets?

I am interested in purchasing a color printer. Many years ago I had a
laser printer (B&W only) that was very sharp in its printing. I now
have a color inkjet printer that is old and not so precise as I remember
the laser.

Am I correct that laser printers are better at printing more sharply
than injet printers?

Thanks for your consideration of my question.

Pedro

Lasers can do very very well for black text sort of printing. If you
want to do color photographs, Lasers can do well, but a good
inkjet photoprinter (Epson, Canon, etc) will do substantially
better. At least in terms of desk sort of laser printers anyway.
Some large "printers" used at photofinishing places (maybe
the Fuji one?) may technically be 'laser' printers that do
VERY well, but probably aren't the class of 'laser printer'
you had in mind (probably the electrostatic toner style). :)

One thing about those laser printers (I once had an HPLJ-4) is
that they blacks are VERY black while some inkjet's black aren't
quite so *BLACK*. That may give the sense of difference
depending upon the particular printer. Some black inks are
more "matte" than others too.

Mike

P.S. - Laser printers can, indeed, print a lot faster even
if not as well as good inkjets.

With inkjet the ink tends to spread a little, it's a liquid. This
isn't the case with a laser which is a dry process, so a good
quality laser should be sharper than an inkjet. But make
sure the laser you choose can produce dense blacks,
some don't, the reviews are useful.

The Canon IP4000 has a pigmented black and a dye black. The dye is used
for Photos and the Pigmented black is used for text.
