LG L1720P 17" TFT LCD (Attractive styling blends silver, black and gray) 1280x1024 550:1 16ms 0.264mm D-Sub/DVI 239.99
1.44 Floppy Disk Drive (Black) 12
Cooler Master (RC-541) Centurion Micro ATX 541 - w/ 380W PSU - Black 85
Logitech (970144) S100 2pc Speakers - Black - (OEM) or R10 13.99
Logitech (967457) Internet Pro Desktop - PS2 - Black - (OEM) 19.99

I would like some suggestions or recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Good system at a good price but what is your relative going to use this PC for? The config would depend on usage.

Reg Gaming:

If he /she plays games occasionally I think that built in x300 is not going to suffice. On ther other hand if your relatives gaming experience is MS mineswweper or older 3d games then it should be ok.

Thanks for the response. She'll can only see her playing web games like collapse, texttwist, and party poker

I believe the x300 is decent enough for that, but what about when Vista comes out? I hope it'll handle the Aero Glass effects ... if not the board I chose has a PCIe slot, so I could throw in a cheapy graphics card later.

your forgetting the OS costs ;)

OEM version of Win XP home at Ncix.com is 106.00 Thats a great deal over the boxed version at 299.99 at Future Shop.

OEM XP pro is 155...again a great deal over the box at 399.99

Oh yes .. how could I forget

But yes, I think I will be going for XP professional. Good to hear, it's a decent computer, but what about Vista performance?

it should handle vista fine. True some of the gfx features of vista MAY have to be toned down...but noones really gonna know till it comes closer to retail..like you said though you could find an old 6600GT PCI-e when vista comes out for like 60-80 bucks and throw it in.

I suggest that you wait at least 6 months to 1 year after vista is released. At least till the 3rd party manufacturers come out with decent drivers and MS irons out the major bugs (no guarantees on the latter through:) ). Then you get a decent midrange DX10 card for under 100$. Besides you don’t want the money you are going to spend on XP to get wasted don’t you?
