I was under the impression that SATA 2 drives were Bakwards compatable with SATA 1 Motherboards, but when I asked Tech support at Epox they tell me I can use only SATA 1.

My M.B. is Epox EP-4KVMI

All the SATA II HD's I've seen are backwards compatable, best check with the HD manufacturer. Quick Google!

Some SATA-II drives have jumpers to set them in SATA-I mode. The ones without jumpers should just throttle back to SATA-I mode automatically.

Also, like KWH said, check the hd manufacturer to be sure.

The Hitachis I have were set to SATA I default. I have to get the software (free) from Hitachi to enable them to SATA II. Makes a bootable floppy, easy to use. Also can change other specs such as accoustic dampening.
